Cuckoo Clock Parts
___________________________
Everything from replacement cloth for the bellows of your cuckoo
clock to replacement chains to re-hang the weights is available. If
necessary, it is even possible to completely rebuild the clockworks of
your cuckoo clock.
Local hobby shops are likely to have some of the items necessary
to repair a clock, including replacement hands, numbers and chains. But for the more cuckoo specific parts, it is probably best to deal directly with a clockmaker.
Once it was difficult to find parts for your cuckoo clock if it
needed to be repaired, but with the internet, there are several options available. There are also many reputable clock shops available as
well.
These shops carry everything from pendulums and weights to new
clock faces and sprockets. Many also carry instructional videos to help people in remote areas learn to repair their cuckoo clocks themselves.
Some of the parts are unique to cuckoo clocks. A pendulum
resembling an acorn or correctly balanced weights in the shape of pinecones are unlikely to be available in most small communities. Another part unique to the cuckoo
clock is the Brass “H” nut used to keep the hands in place.
Cuckoo clocks, especially antique clocks, also feature bellows, a
simple construction of wire and cloth. This is another point where the right are imperative to the repair of your cuckoo clock.
Many specialty stores also offer the decorative pieces of the
cuckoo clock, from acorns to plastic antlers to restore a clock to it’s original look and a special epoxy that is designed to work well on a clock.
But perhaps the most important piece of a cuckoo clock that can
require replacement is the cuckoo itself. Although almost any plastic bird could be used to create the visual effect of the cuckoo clock, it is important to buy
a cuckoo designed to emulate the look and sound of the original
clock. Many of these birds
lift their tails or flap their wings as they open their beaks to
announce the hour. Be sure when looking for a replacement cuckoo
to find one that has all the capabilities of the
original.
Restoring a broken cuckoo clock is not as formidable a task as it
once was, but it does require patient and finding the proper parts.
